Age 60 Might Have More Immunity
New test results show what scientists have suspected – people in their 60s and older have signs of greater immunity to the new swine flu virus. Scientists think it’s because older people have been exposed to other viruses in the past that are more similar to swine flu than more recent seasonal flus. But the results come from complicated lab work and calculations, and it’s not yet clear how safe older people actually are from the new infection, federal officials said. “We can’t say,” said Dr. Anne Schuchat of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. So older people are advised to take the same precautions as their children and grandchildren.
In the new analysis, CDC scientists mixed the new swine flu virus with blood samples taken in the past from people in the United States and Europe to check for antibodies that would guard against infection. The samples were taken from healthy people before the new flu surfaced. Significant protection was seen in one in three of the samples from people 60 and older, but in less than one in 10 of samples from younger adults. The number of samples was small, and the lab test hasn’t been verified, so cautious CDC scientists weren’t willing to say it shows a clear-cut immunity in older people.
However, it could have implications for how well different people do when exposed to the swine flu virus. Also, if the government pushes two-dose swine flu shots later this year, it might mean only one dose is necessary for senior citizens. CDC officials say the Asian flu in 1957 – which was a pandemic – and some other flu viruses after, have become common seasonal flu strains. But scientists believe that before 1957, the kind of flu that infected the country each winter was more like the new swine flu, at least in the way patients’ immune systems responded.
That would help explain why the new flu seems to be hitting younger people harder than older folks. Also yesterday, Mexico City lowered its swine flu alert level from yellow to green, and the mayor said “we can relax” because there had been no new infections for a week. Mayor Marcelo Ebrard said the change means the risk of contagion is low, the situation is under control, and the images of countless people wearing blue surgical masks in cars, sidewalks, restaurants, and theaters can be consigned to history.
Travel Along From Birth To Death
Individuals most embrace challenging goals, work hard, and strive for success. Some pursue goals they consider important, satisfying, and fulfilling. Hence, although consideration of desires is important, career plans must be anchored in the reality of our abilities and skills. With knowledge of our skills and abilities, we can identify our current capabilities and competencies
From thereon, what lies ahead? Sixty is the youth of old age, I think. Some of us are just a child in this “aging” business. We can read the books, but I don’t have to enter the country. Not yet. That’s good, because I’m not quite ready, though guaranteed acceptance life insurance we’re getting there. I understand that this journey is inevitable and that it’s been going on steadily on our whole life. We might as well enjoy the view as we travel along from birth to death. We may be a passenger on the journey, or may be the vehicle itself, but definitely we’re not the driver.
Life On The Streets Of Homeless Youth
Homeless youth striving to turn their lives around will get a-once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to perform with some of Broadway’s greatest stars on Tuesday, June 2, on the stage of the Hudson Theatre at the Millennium Hotel in New York City. This inaugural event, Night of Broadway Stars, will feature a show-stopping performance by young people being helped by the Covenant House New York crisis shelter.
“This event gives our kids a chance to show their talent, their courage and their goodness,” says Kevin M. Ryan, President of Covenant House. “After a very tough start in life, they have found the strength to get off the streets. “It is my sincere belief that all our young people, no matter the circumstances, have inside themselves the determination and the strength to build self-sufficient, stable lives, but they need our help to do it” said Jerome Kilbane, Executive Director of Covenant House New York. “Performing alongside professional singers for hundreds of people reveals the courage and confidence that must be cultivated to help these kids make it on their own.”
Night of Broadway Stars will include a full revue of performances by some of Broadway’s greatest performers, including Rita Harvey from Phantom of the Opera, Natalie Toro from Les Miserables, Capathia Jenkins from Dreamgirls, and Darius de Haas from Kiss of the Spider Woman. Pasta Salad
A juicy bacon-lettuce-tomato sandwich was the inspiration for this quick and delicious pasta salad. To make it in even less time, purchase precooked bacon and chop it.

6 ounces of farfalle (bow-tie pasta)
1 pound of low sodium or regular bacon
2 cups of cherry or grape tomatoes, halved
2 cups of fresh baby spinach, packed
6 tablespoons of mayonnaise
2 tablespoons of oil-packed sun-dried tomatoes, drained and finely minced
2 garlic cloves, minced
1/2 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce
1 cup of croutons
What to Do:
STEP 1) Cook the farfalle pasta according to the package directions; drain. Rinse under cold water; drain again. Place the pasta in a large bowl and set aside
STEP 2) Meanwhile, cook the bacon in a large skillet over medium-high heat for 6 to 10 minutes or until crisp, turning once; coarsely chop.
STEP 3) Add the chopped bacon, tomatoes and spinach to the farfalle pasta. Combine all of the remaining ingredients except the croutons in a small bowl. Stir the pasta mixture until well-coated. Stir in the croutons just before serving.
STEP 4) Enjoy!
