Clothes shops, sweet shops, restaurants and cafes are all commercial institutions to which Sidon locals have become accustomed. However, a new type of business activity has been on the rise in the southern coastal city and has introduced a different type of residents.

Pet shops are a new phenomenon in Sidon and the small furry animals are attracting more and more customers with their adorable appearances and delightful natures.

Pet shop owner Yehya Hobeish explained to The Daily Star that it was his love of animals that led him to the industry. “It’s a nice business,” he said, pointing to the variety of creatures behind him.

Dogs, monkeys, parrots, guinea pigs, fish, snakes, cats and birds, among others, form part of his “trade reserve,” in addition to accessories for animals such as food, shampoo, perfume and animal health products. [Read more...]
